Summer updates PDF Print E-mail

Hi!

Summer has finally come!

Even this year I will be at GamesCom, in Cologne, and probably I will also attend the GDC. If you happen to be there in the same period and just want to hang out, I will be more than happy to!

Let's start with the updates.

Himeki's development is going on. Android development can be a little hard at first, since you need to understand its API and also study OpenGL ES, but it's absolutely worth it.

I've also found the time to write some new articles and tutorials, and even opened a new Android section!

Android Tutorials

Android - How to set your game as full screen - Java

Android - How to switch between Activities - Java

Android - How to prevent screen from dimming - Java

Android - How to change your game's icon - Java

Android - How to use the Accelerometer sensor - Java

Flash Tutorials

AS3 - Setting the Stage quality

AS3 - Detecting the current runtime environment

Flash CS5 - How to embed custom fonts

Unity Tutorials

Unity 3.0 - Disabling strafe when using First person Controller - JavaScript

It's been a while since my last news, so let's go with the updates.

Himeki's development has been moved to Android, and a new project, temporarily named "Project Mansion", is in development.

Project Mansion is a "First person horror experience", developed in Unity. Stay tuned for more info!

As you can see in the menu on the left, I've opened a Unity Articles & Tutorials section. I'm still working on it, but you can already find some useful basic tutorials.

Here's a list of new articles I've published:

Unity Tutorials

Unity 3.0 - How to read mouse position - JavaScript

Unity 3.0 - How to quit the game - JavaScript

Unity 3.0 - How to switch between levels - Javascript

Unity 3.0 - How to apply a default Skybox to the scene

Unity 3.0 - How to change your game's icon

Unity 3.0 - How to instantiate a Game Object at runtime - Javascript

Flash Tutorials

Studying Unity PDF Print E-mail

Hi, how's it going?

In this period I'm studying Unity. It's my first approach to 3D game dev, so I need to learn a lot of concepts. Fortunately, my knowledge of Linear Algebra and 3D math comes to help!

For the basics, I've followed "Unity Game Development Essentials", by Will Goldstone. It's a pretty good book, which helps you to build a little Unity project from scratches.

I'm using Javascript for the scripting part. I've also found a lot of wonderful websites with a lot of free 3D models! Here's some links:

Archive3D

3DModelFree

TurboSquid

Quality3DModels

3DXtras

Top 3D Models

And of course the Unity Asset Store.

Now I'm doing some experimentations, following the official documentation and the Unity forum:

The result seems to be awesome since now. I will soon start to design a little project, probably together with Alex Camilleri.

Thanks for reading, see you later!

Let's Type is the first game I've ever published. I developed it using Adobe Flash CS4, Actionscript 3.0.

It's a simple and funny typing game. In Let's Type, you have to press on the keyboard the right key that appears on the screen before time runs out.

You start with 3 lives. As you keep playing, difficulty will grow up, giving you less and less time. Also, you have to avoid red letters, or you will lose a life.

Let's Type implements a combo system. Every right letter gives you a combo point, which make you earn more points, but your combo points counter will return to 0 either if you press the wrong letter or if you press on a red letter, so be careful.

You can play it here:

Kongregate - Play Let's Type!

Newgrounds - Play Let's Type!

Also, if you're interested in non-exclusive site-locked licenses, you can find it in the Game Shop area of FlashGameLicense, or you can send me an email!

Two or three months later, I rewrote the game in C# using the Microsoft XNA Framework.

You can download it here:
